NEWARK -- A 17-year-old Pleasanton girl reported as a runaway Monday was found dead with a man inside a Newark motel on Friday in what police say looks like either a murder-suicide or a double suicide.
Officers responded to the E-Z 8 Motel at 5555 Cedar Court at 11:48 a.m. Friday after a housekeeper discovered the bodies in a second-floor room above the motel office, Cmdr. Mike Carroll said.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene, Newark police said in a statement. The cause of death is still under investigation, but a preliminary investigation points to a murder-suicide or "a tragic double suicide," the statement said.
Pleasanton police issued a news release late Friday saying the female victim was a teenager reported as a runaway by her mother on Monday. The 24-year-old man was from Livermore, Newark police said, referring to a statement from the Alameda County coroner.
Police would not confirm if the girl was Patricia Martin, a Village High student who was reported missing Monday and was listed as an "endangered runaway" on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children website.
Police said the mother was unable to provide any information regarding her daughter's whereabouts but believed she was in the company of her boyfriend.
