UNION CITY -- The 2nd annual Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Leadership Awards Ceremony will begin at noon Thursday in Union City.

The ceremony, be hosted by Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski, D-Fremont, will be held in the Holly Community Center at 31600 Alvarado Blvd.

Wieckowski will honor individuals from the Asian Pacific Islander American community who work or reside within the 20th Assembly District, which includes the Tri-City area and Milpitas and parts of Pleasanton, Hayward, San Jose, Sunol and Castro Valley.

The Asian Pacific Islander American community is the fastest growing racial and ethnic group in the state, Wieckowski said. "The 20th Assembly District, like all of California, has benefited from the varied contributions of Asian Pacific Islander Americans," he said.

The event is free and open to the public, but a limited number of RSVPs will be accepted. To attend, call Andrae Macapinlac at 510-440-9030.
