RICHMOND -- An Albany woman pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder charges in the stabbing death of an 81-year-old Kensington man, according to court records.
Authorities say Diane Sydenham, 56, stabbed James Edward Durkin Jr., a retired psychologist and professor, in the chest with a steak knife at his Kensington home Aug. 13. Prosecutors have not divulged any details, including a possible motive.
Neighbors told this newspaper they suspected Durkin and Sydenham were romantically linked.
Sydenham returns to court in October to schedule her preliminary hearing. She continues to be held in West County Jail in Richmond in lieu of $2 million bail.
