ANTIOCH -- A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Tuesday after authorities said he caused an accident while speeding down the center median of Highway 4 to pass another car.
Mario Farias was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury after he crashed his Ford Mustang into the rear of a Ford Expedition on the highway, just east of Hillcrest Avenue, about 10:30 p.m., CHP Sgt. Diana McDermott said. His city of residence was not released.
The driver of the Expedition, a 50-year-old Oakley man, was taken by ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in Antioch with moderate injuries, McDermott said.
She said the wreck occurred when Farias tried to pass the other car via a center median lane that separates westbound and eastbound traffic. McDermott said Farias had to speed to pass the Expedition, which authorities estimated was driving at 65 mph when the wreck occurred.
