The Eagles' ability to run the ball against the visiting Dons kept the offense on the field most of the game.

But Kennedy defensive back Rashid Jamerson's interception early in the third quarter prevented De Anza (2-3, 0-1 Tri-County Athletic League-Stone Division) from picking up any momentum in the second half.

Four plays later, Jamerson took the ball 59 yards as a running back, scoring his first of two touchdowns Friday to start league play for the Eagles (2-4, 1-0 TCAL).

"After the pick, I knew it was time to start making plays," the senior said. "They put me in as a running back, I cut back and ran to the open field (for the touchdown)."

The Eagles ran the ball 45 times and only threw two passes against the Dons.

James Carter, the Dons' new quarterback, was 5-14 for 95 yards and threw two interceptions, both in the second half.

"We were trying to work in a new quarterback, a lot of it wasn't his fault," De Anza coach Jim Klaczak said. "The offensive line didn't block for him."

The line also had issues against the Eagles' run defense, as De Anza rushed for 49 yards on 20 carries.
