BRENTWOOD -- Police say a San Jose pot dealer picked a really bad time to check on his stash Monday -- just as officers were dispatched to his storage locker to investigate the strong smell of marijuana.
The man, Vu Nguyen Ly, 25, of San Jose, was arrested, and 47 pounds of marijuana valued at $165,000 were seized, according to Brentwood police Lt. Ben Tolero.
Officers were called to Diamond Mine Mini Storage, in the 100 block of Guthrie Lane, around 3:30 p.m. after a caller reported a suspicious odor coming from a storage unit, Tolero said. While officers were investigating the unit, Ly showed up, his car smelling strongly of marijuana, Tolero said.
Police searched Ly's car and found marijuana packaged for sale, Tolero said. They obtained a search warrant and opened the locker, where they found more pot and equipment used to package and sell marijuana.
Ly was arrested and booked into County Jail in Martinez on suspicion of felony transportation of marijuana and felony possession of marijuana for sale.
