Councilwoman Myrna de Vera's husband has launched two political action committees, one to "support local candidates," the other to "oppose local candidates," according to filings with the California Secretary of State.
The first is titled "For a Better Hercules," the second, "Save Hercules."
Three council incumbents -- William Wilkins, Gerard Boulanger and Mayor Dan Romero -- and four challengers -- Bill Kelly, Sherry McCoy, Hector Rubio and Phil Simmons -- are vying for three council seats Nov. 6.
Manuel de Vera, the councilwoman's husband, did not respond to an email from this newspaper this week. In an email widely circulated among residents last month, he wrote: "We need McCoy, Rubio and Simmons to win and be elected to the Hercules City Council. Let us kick out Romero, Wilkins and Boulangier (sic)." Contact Tom Lochner at 510-262-2760. Follow him at twitter.com/tomlochner
