FREMONT -- A Fremont man is suspected of stabbing two people during an overnight fight at an apartment complex, police said.

The victims were not seriously injured.

Officers were called about midnight Thursday to Pathfinder Village at 39800 Fremont Blvd. for a report of assault with a deadly weapon, said Det. Bill Veteran.

Investigators soon learned an argument took place between about a half-dozen people inside an apartment there, Veteran said, and that a man who rented the apartment, believed to be under the influence of drugs, attacked two men, age 20 and 24, in the living room with a knife.

The victims sustained nonlife threatening wounds and were able to flee the man's home, Veteran said.

The suspect -- who police identified as Mario Avanto, 22 --and his girlfriend remained in the apartment, but when police arrived, tried to escape out a bedroom window, Veteran said.

Avanto was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

The incident remains under investigation, Veteran said.
