Olito Thompson scored six touchdowns and rushed for 306 yards on 12 carries, leading the host Concord High football team to a 54-12 Diablo Valley Athletic League victory over Ygnacio Valley on Friday night.

Concord (6-1, 1-1 DVAL) started sloppily, throwing two early interceptions and falling behind 6-0 after a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Ygnacio Valley quarterback Jamari Pope. But the Minutemen had something to prove after a tough loss last week at Northgate.

Thompson, coming off a career low 62-yard rushing performance in the defeat to the Broncos, provided that spark. He made quick cuts, got loose and used his breakaway speed to give the Warrior defenders little chance to stop him.

Ygnacio Valley (1-6, 0-2) was able to move the ball against the Concord defense between the 20s, chewing up a lot of time off the clock during its drives. But they were continually stuffed on fourth down, when it counted.

Pope ran for 94 yards and also threw for 122 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown pass to Robert Foreman.

The Minutemen welcome rival Clayton Valley next Friday night for their homecoming game.
