FREMONT -- A Fremont nonprofit group gearing up for its holiday drive is asking the public to help by volunteering time or making donations.
Tri-City Volunteers is asking schools, churches or businesses to host a food barrel to help gather donations for families in need.
The nonprofit, which has worked to eliminate hunger in Fremont, Newark and Union City for more than 40 years, also will accept financial donations.
The organization, which also runs a thrift store, assists up to 6,000 families each year by providing food and programs that offer job skills to residents trying to escape poverty.
