FREMONT -- A customer scared off a trio of armed robbers at a city liquor store over the weekend, police said.

Officers responded at 7:40 p.m. Saturday to CJ Liquors at 4949 Stevenson Blvd. for a report of an attempted armed robbery, said police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

A clerk told police that three suspects, all described as men aged 19 to 25, entered the store and that one of them was holding a handgun.

A second suspect made a gesture he had a gun, Bosques said, but did not brandish one in the store.

During the attempted robbery a customer came in and interrupted the crime and the suspects became startled and fled the store on foot, according to a police report.

Police said the suspect who held the gun wore a striped gray T-shirt. The second suspect was described as having "a small bit of hair," a mustache and a skinny build. He wore black clothing. The third suspect wore black pants, police said.
