CASTRO VALLEY -- Proctor Elementary School was locked down for about an hour Tuesday morning due to police activity, authorities said.
Officers responded at 10:15 a.m. to an area outside the school at 17520 Redwood Road for a report of a suspicious male lurking around a set of vehicles, said Alameda County Sheriff's Office spokesman J.D. Nelson.
When police attempted to stop the man, he took off running, so officials alerted school leaders and Proctor was locked down, Nelson said.
The man was apprehended shortly after and arrested. Nelson said he was on probation for auto burglary.
The lockdown was lifted at about 11:15 a.m., Nelson said.
