HAYWARD -- To help kids get into the holiday spirit, Hayward police provided more than 300 Halloween costumes to area children on Monday.
The second annual Halloween Costume Giveaway allowed Hayward police officers to collect and distribute Halloween costumes to children in Hayward that might not otherwise have a costume for Halloween night.
The costumes were given to children between ages 5 and 12 who attend school at one of five elementary schools in Hayward. The costumes were presented to the children at City Hall on Monday.
The Hayward Police Department also joined with over 20 businesses in the downtown area to pass out candy to the kids after they received their costumes.
The Hayward Police Officers' Association and the Bay Area Chapter of the California Narcotic Officers' Association donated all the money to purchase the costumes for the children.
