SAN JOSE -- San Jose State freshman kicker Austin Lopez is one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award, which honors the nation's top kicker.
Lopez, from Euless, Texas, is one of three kickers in the country who is perfect on field goal attempts. He's 13 for 13 this season with a long of 43 yards. Only Tulane junior Cairo Santos, with 14, has made more field goals without a miss.
Lopez has already set several SJSU records. His 76 points is a record for points scored by a freshman and his 13 field goals are the most consecutive makes in school history. He kicked four field goals in SJSU's 12-0 win over Navy to tie a school record for field goals in a game.
The 20 semifinalists will be paired down to three finalists, which will be announced Nov. 19. The winner will be announced Dec. 6.
