SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO -- Police were looking for whoever opened fire on and missed shooting the occupants of a red Pontiac Grand Am as it drove down a street Sunday, authorities said.

The suspect fired three times at the northbound Pontiac in the 800 block of Cypress Avenue around 8:30 p.m. but didn't wound the two young men in the car, according to South San Francisco police. The bullets shattered a window as well as damaged the body of another vehicle.

The suspects were last seen running north on Cypress and then hiding near Armour Avenue and Airport Boulevard, police said. It wasn't immediately clear if the shooting had any connection to the history of gang trouble in the neighborhood.

Police said it didn't seem the violence was a random act.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call police at 650-877-8900.
