Contra Costa County

AWARD ANNOUNCED: The Contra Costa County Library is one of 10 2012 National Medal for Museum and Library Service award winners.

Awarded by the nationwide Institute of Museum and Library Services, the medal "celebrates institutions that make a difference for individuals, families, and communities," according to the institute.

The library is being recognized for its "go" services: Snap & Go is a smart phone QR scan application; Library-a-Go-Go provides book lending machines in underserved locations; and Discover & Go allows libraries to offer cardholders access to downloadable free passes to local museums and a wide range of cultural institutions.

The medal will be presented Nov. 14 in Washington, D.C.
