SAN LORENZO -- With most of the votes in, incumbent Helen Foster and newcomer Penny Peck were headed to victory in the San Lorenzo Unified election. Incumbents Jim Sherman and Norman Fobert were in a close race for the third spot on the school board.

Foster led with 23.2 percent of the vote, followed by Peck with 22.8 percent. Sherman had 18.5 percent and Fobert 18.4 percent. Challenger Syed "Tony" Shah trailed with 17 percent.

Foster, a human resource director for San Jose schools, has served two terms on the school board. Peck, who is retired, was a children's librarian in San Leandro for many years and is a volunteer in San Lorenzo schools.

Sherman, a retired school district custodian, was first elected in 2008. Fobert, a retired teacher and principal, has served four terms on the board.

Shah is human resource director for the Castro Valley school district.
