HAYWARD -- A man's decomposed body was found Tuesday at an abandoned auto business on Mission Boulevard, police said.

Officers responded at 9:30 p.m. to the former Perry & Key auto repair business at 28953 Mission Blvd. for a report of a body found inside the building, said Lt. Roger Keener.

A construction worker performing roadwork on Mission Boulevard smelled an odor and followed it to an abandoned building where he found the body then called police, Keener said.

Keener said it appears the man's body had been there for some time based on the level of decomposition.

The man's identity and cause of death were not known Wednesday.

His body was taken to the Alameda County Medical Examiner-Coroner's office and an autopsy is scheduled Thursday, Keener said.
