A baby girl was hospitalized Wednesday after she fell out of a second-story window at a Fremont home, police said.
Rescuers airlifted the 11-month-old to Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford after the 2 p.m. incident in the 800 block of Walnut Avenue, and the baby was crying and conscious, Fremont Fire Capt. Steve Silva said. Police initially said the baby was 1 year old.
No update on the baby's condition was available, but Silva said that the baby was awake was "an excellent, excellent, excellent sign."
The baby fell approximately 30 feet into some bushes, which may have broken the fall somewhat, Silva said. She was unconscious initially but regained consciousness as Fremont fire crews provided medical aid, Silva said.
The incident appears to be an accident, Silva said. No updates on the child's condition were expected until Thursday morning.
