The Concord High football team started its quest for an North Coast Section Division II title by scoring 44 first half points against visiting Mt. Eden, leading the way to an easy 50-6 victory on Friday. Fifth-seeded Concord (9-2) put up 377 yards before halftime.

Minutemen quarterback Mitch Daniels threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns. Star senior running back Olito Thompson ran for 200 yards and scored twice on the ground. Thompson also caught a screen pass from Daniels and scampered into the end zone from 21 yards out for his third score of the night.

No. 12 Mt. Eden (6-5) ran the ball 44 times for 166 yards. Monarchs' running back Devante McGowan had a 1-yard touchdown run in the 2nd quarter to make it a 22-6 game. But that was all for Mt. Eden as Concord scored the final 28 points. McGowan rushed for 128 yards on 32 carries.

Concord travels to play No. 4 Casa Grande in Petaluma next Saturday. The Minutemen defeated Casa Grande two years ago 26-21 in an NCS semifinal on their way to the Division II crown.
