OAKLAND -- A man has been charged with the armed robbery of two men lured to Oakland through Craigslist ads for marijuana and a car, police said Thursday.
The suspect, Cas Black, 19, of Oakland, is charged with two counts of armed robbery and is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail at Santa Rita Jail. He is also suspected of similar robberies but has not been charged with any of them yet, police said.
Police said the robberies happened between Aug. 22 and Oct. 22.
Officer Omar Daza-Quiroz said Black would place ads on Craigslist to lure victims to Oakland, where they were robbed at gunpoint.
In one case a Redwood City man who thought he was going to buy medicinal marijuana and hydroponic equipment to grow his own weed was robbed of $600 in cash near the intersection of 73rd Avenue and Hawley Street, police said.
In the other charged case, a Newark man was robbed of $1,400 he brought to the 6200 block of Outlook Avenue believing he was going to purchase a car.
Police were able to identify Black through Craigslist messages and he was arrested Nov. 9 at a Berkeley hardware store where he worked, Daza-Quiroz said. He has been identified as the robber by both victims, police said.
