WALNUT CREEK -- Demolition of the eight-story white "Peace Building" at 1500 Newell Ave. will continue into the weekend, which means lane closures around the Main Street/Newell Avenue intersection will continue a few days longer than anticipated.
The "Peace Building," built in the mid-1970s as a bank, had until a few years ago served as an office building. It is making way for development of a mixed residential-commercial project called "The Village."
Nearby businesses remain open, and access to those businesses will remain.
Under Walnut Creek city rules, no lane closures are permitted for construction during the period from Thanksgiving until Jan. 2.
