DISCOVERY BAY -- Despite emphasizing a reluctance to go forward, Community Services District directors agreed last week to consider increasing their compensation.

Board members can receive a stipend of $100 a day for up to six days a month. State law allows the water district governing boards to increase pay by up to 5 percent for each calendar year since the last adjustment.

The last time the board increased its compensation was in 2002, when the limit went from $25 to $100, director Ray Tetreault said.

Given that information at its Dec. 5 meeting, the Discovery Bay board asked to see how the numbers would bear out.

All directors said they are on the board to serve the community, not for the money.

Board members are reimbursed for mileage, travel and other business-related expense, but not phone expensed, paper, toner and other miscellaneous costs.
