FREMONT -- A gas station employee was attacked but not seriously injured during an attempted robbery Sunday night, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the Chevron gas station in the 5500 block of Thornton Avenue for a report of an attempted robbery, police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that two black male suspects entered the gas station and asked a male clerk for money, Bosques said. When the clerk refused, one of the suspects assaulted the clerk.

The suspects then fled west on Thornton Avenue, Bosques said.

Police described the suspects as each being ages 20-25, 5-foot-8, with a thin build. The first suspect wore a green T-shirt and blue jeans. The other suspect wore a black beanie, a black T-shirt and black sweat pants.
