HAYWARD -- An elderly woman is expected to survive after being struck by a pickup truck Monday morning while walking near East Lewelling Boulevard and Mission Boulevard in unincorporated Hayward, the California Highway Patrol said.

The collision between the truck and woman, whose age was not released, occurred at 5:41 a.m., the CHP said. How the collision unfolded was still being determined by investigators.

Rescue crews took the woman to Eden Medical Center to treat minor injuries, the CHP said. Both northbound lanes on Mission Boulevard were blocked at East Lewelling, and traffic was expected to be backed up for much of the morning, the CHP said.
