Assemblyman Tim Donnelly plans to introduce a bill that would allow teachers or other school personnel to receive publicly-funded training to carry weapons on campus as a deterrent against future mass shootings.

Donnelly, R-Hesperia, plans to hold a press conference Wednesday morning to announce the bill, which would create what the fiery legislator calls a "School Marshal Plan."

The bill would allow public school educators to pay for the firearms training necessary for teachers, administrators or janitors to carry weapons on campus.

Donnelly, a Tea Party-style Republican whose pro-gun and anti-big government views set him at odds with the Democrats who dominate the Legislature, introduced the bill in response to December's mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newton, Conn.
