The public is invited to a meeting Thursday night at Banning High School in Wilmington to discuss a plan by the Los Angeles Unified School District to split the school into two separate schools with two principals come next fall.

The plan stems from LAUSD's Public School Choice initiative, in which low-performing schools are asked to reconfigure their campuses. The last area school to undergo such a transformation was Carson High, which was split into three schools beginning this past August.

The 6 p.m. meeting will be held in the theater. Banning High is located at 1527 Lakme Ave, Wilmington.
