A fisherman who was seriously injured after waves knocked him out of his kayak Sunday was rescued by people on a private vessel who brought him back to San Pedro, authorities said.
The unidentified fisherman was in the water off San Pedro when several large waves hit his kayak, dumping the man into the rocks, Fire Department spokeswoman Katherine Main said.
"The emergency call about the injured fisherman came into the fire department at 2:49 p.m.," Main said. "The vessel that rescued the man was directed to bring him back to Fire Station 112 in San Pedro, where he was turned over to our paramedics."
Fire Station 112 is located at 444 S. Harbor Blvd.
Paramedics stabilized the man and transported him to a hospital for treatment in serious condition, Main said.
No other injuries were reported, she said.
