MANHATTAN BEACH — Richard Gill, director of Manhattan Beach's Parks and Recreation Department, plans to retire from his job on May 10, the city announced.

Gill has worked for the department for more than 14 years.

City Manager Dave Carmany said he plans to begin recruiting applicants and will work with Gill to ensure a smooth transition.

Carmany said he was grateful to Gill for guiding the city's Parks and Recreation Commission "to respond to changing community needs and priorities and consistently developing creative new programs and solutions, all in a cost-efficient manner."
