HARBOR GATEWAY — Groundbreaking will take place at noon Saturday on a new Harbor Gateway pocket park. It is the the newest project in the city's 50 Parks Initiative.

Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino will be joined by city and anti-gang officials for the ceremony on the corner of Torrance Boulevard and Denker Avenue.

The citywide initiative is a public-private partnership designed to add more than 170 acres of new open space to the city of Los Angeles. The project uses underutilized properties, many left blighted from the housing crises, for new neighborhood park space. Each park includes environmentally sustainable designs and safety features to minimize park maintenance.
