CONCORD -- A man who was struck by a car and seriously injured while jaywalking Feb. 10 on a busy Concord street died of his injuries about a week later, authorities said.

Mitch Carscadden, 52, was in extremely critical condition when he was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek after the crash. Police said he was not in a crosswalk when he began crossing Clayton Road near Bailey Road about 6:15 p.m. and was struck by a Chevy Cobalt.

The driver was cooperative with police and submitted to a blood test, but alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash, and the driver was not arrested or charged, according to Concord police Lt. Bill Roche.
