COMPTON - An investigation was underway today into a deputy-involved shooting in which a suspect was wounded in an unincorporated area near Compton, authorities said.
The shooting took place when deputies responded around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to a domestic violence call in the 400 block of East Darlan Street, said Deputy Peter Gomez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and remained at large this morning, he said, adding that no deputies were injured.
The man fled in a vehicle, said Sgt. Bryan Haynes of the sheriff's Compton Station.
Blood was found at the scene, according to Haynes.
The shooting was being investigated by the sheriff's Internal Affairs Bureau and the Los Angeles County Office of Independent Review, as is standard in deputy-involved shootings in which no one is struck, Gomez said.
