A 55-year-old Downey man who taught at a charter school in unincorporated Willowbrook was released on bail Monday after his arrest for allegedly molesting three girls at the school between October 2012 and March of this year, authorities said.

Detectives arrested Juan Cardoza at his Downey residence Wednesday, said Sgt. Richard Ruiz of the sheriff's Special Victims Bureau.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed four felony counts of lewd acts with a child and one felony count of annoying or molesting a child, Ruiz said. Bail was set at $320,000, according to the sheriff's inmate records. Cardoza is scheduled to appear in Compton Municipal Court May 16, according to the sheriff's department.

Cardoza worked at the New Designs Charter School in Willowbrook, Ruiz said. The incidents allegedly occurred at the school between October 2012 and March, 2013, and were recently reported to the sheriff's department, he said.
