Smoke awakens 1 in burning home

A person in a burning home was awakened by the smell of smoke and got out safely, Marina firefighters said.

The fire was reported abut 9:40 p.m. Saturday at 3053 Phillip Circle, and firefighters said smoke and flames were coming from the home when they arrived.

Firefighters said the blaze was quickly put out, but the home had extensive heat and smoke damage. The cause is under investigation.

4 arrested on gang, firearm charges

Seaside police arrested four men on firearm and gang charges Saturday and seized two loaded guns.

Police said patrol officers went to the 1900 block of Fremont Boulevard shortly after 8 p.m. on a report of a gun being brandished.

About 30 minutes later, an officer saw a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle involved in the earlier incident and a traffic stop was made, police said.

Arrested were William Dominguez, 20, Edwardo Munoz, 19, Ramsal Navarro, 19, and Jose Acosta, 21, all of Seaside.

Drivers arrested at checkpoint

Two suspected drunken drivers were arrested Saturday during a checkpoint operation that saw more than 800 vehicles, Marina police said.

The checkpoint at Imjin Parkway and Third Avenue went from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. with Marina and Carmel police. About 280 drivers were contacted. Seven were cited for driving while unlicensed.
