Motorcycle riders hurt in hit-run
A car pulled onto Highway 1 northbound in front of two motorcycles heading south Saturday, causing them to lose control and eject their four riders, seriously injuring one of them, the California Highway Patrol said.
A 57-year-old Mountain View woman was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital with a collapsed lung, broken ribs and lacerations after the 2 p.m. accident.
The other three motorcycle riders — one from Mountain View, the others from Tracy — had minor injuries but declined treatment.
The car, a silver Honda Civic, pulled in front of the motorcycles from a private driveway south of Jetty Road, then continued northbound without stopping, the CHP said. It is unknown whether the driver knew he or she had caused the accident, the CHP said.
Anyone with information about the Civic is asked to call the Monterey Area CHP at 796-2100.
Sex offender arrested during sweep
A 39-year-old King City man was arrested Saturday during a sex offender sweep by the Monterey County Sheriff's Office Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement unit.
Gabriel Camarena, a registered sex offender, was booked into Monterey County Jail for parole violations, deputies said.
The sweep was conducted in the Arroyo Seca, King City, San Lucas and San Ardo areas.
