A diver who drowned at Breakwater Cove on Saturday has been identified as Albert Mackay, 43, of Yuba City.

Mackay's death came the day after another diver was found floating in the cove. Michael Taketa-Graham, 58, of Novato, had been reported missing June 16. Both men appeared to have been diving alone, said Monterey police Lt. Leslie Sonné.

Other divers found Mackay floating in 25 to 27 feet of water tethered to a dive flag, said California state lifeguard Kevin Brady. The red-and-white flag is used on the water to indicate there is a diver below.

After the other divers brought him to shore, Monterey fire personnel and paramedics performed CPR, Brady said. Mackay was then taken to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, where he was pronounced dead. Sonné said an autopsy would be performed Monday afternoon.
