BERKELEY -- A 24-year-old man was shot to death Thursday night, the second fatal shooting in this city in as many weeks, and the second one to occur in the same area in the past six months, police said.
Shots rang out at 9:18 p.m. and police arrived to find the man down in the 1800 block of San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley police spokeswoman, Officer Jennifer Coats said. He was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.
The man's identity was not released by police.
Other details regarding the shooting were scarce, though police remained at the scene conducting their investigation early Friday morning. Police did not say whether they have any suspects.
The fatal shooting, Berkeley's third of 2013, came just 16 days after Berkeley resident Jermaine Davis was found shot in the 1800 block of Derby Street. Davis, who was shot just before 7 p.m. July 17, later died at a hospital.
It also came in nearly the same location where Zontee Jones was killed on Feb. 4. Jones was found shot near the Delaware Street and San Pablo Avenue intersection, just yards away from where Thursday's victim was found.
Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to call 510-981-5741 or 510-981-5900. Anonymous tips can be left at Bay Area Crimes Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
