ALAMEDA -- Police are searching for two men who robbed the Citibank on Webster Street at gunpoint on Saturday morning.

No one was hurt during the robbery, which occurred about 9:15 a.m. and shortly after the nearby Farmers' Market got under way at the street's intersection with Haight Avenue.

One suspect entered the branch at 1526 Webster St. and sat briefly with a bank worker at a desk -- where accounts are opened and other transactions take place -- before his companion arrived and confronted a teller with a handgun, police said.

The first man then also brandished a firearm and both men fled with cash, police Lt. Ted Horlbeck said.

The robbers fled in what witnesses described as a blue 1990s Honda Civic. It was last seen traveling eastbound on Haight Avenue and southbound on Eighth Street, Horlbeck said.

Both suspects are described as black men between 30 and 35 years old.

The man who initially entered the bank stands between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall. He weighs between 160 and 180 pounds and was wearing dark clothing, including a black baseball cap.

His accomplice stands between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall and weighs between 180 and 200 pounds. He was wearing a black leather jacket, a black beanie and black gloves.

The robbery at Citibank comes in the wake of a July 26 robbery of the Bank of Alameda at 1416 Park St., where a man simulated having a handgun when he confronted employees about 10:45 a.m. No one was hurt.

While investigators are not linking the cases, they do suspect the man who carried out the robbery at Bank of Alameda was also behind the recent hold-up of a bank in Hayward based on his description.

In both the Hayward and Alameda robberies, the man, who is black and in his 20s, was wearing a bright "road workers" style vest, police said. He stands about 6 feet tall and weighs between 150 and 160 pounds.

Alameda police ask anyone with information on any of the recent robberies to call 510-337-8340.
