SAN LEANDRO -- Four Oakland teenagers were arrested early Tuesday after they punched a man in the head and robbed him, police said.

Around 12 a.m., the male group of teenagers approached a 62-year-old man who was walking in the 100 block of Estudillo Avenue, according to Lt. Randy Brandt of the San Leandro Police Department. They briefly spoke to him and then one of the teens punched the man, said.

The man fell to the ground and the teens robbed him before running off, though Brandt would not say what they took. The man's injuries were not serious.

An alert neighbor immediately called the police, and officers arriving on scene caught sight of the teens trying to get away. A perimeter was established, and within a short time, all four were caught and arrested on suspicion of robbery.

The man's stolen items were also recovered.

Brandt credited the neighbor's quick call as helping to catch the teens.

"That 5 or 10 minute delay makes the difference between getting on BART and getting caught," he said.
