UNION CITY -- A 21-year-old man shot in the chest during an argument on a city street over the weekend remained hospitalized on Wednesday, police said.

The Union City resident suffered a single gunshot wound about 11 p.m. on Saturday while standing along Miramonte Way, said Cmdr. Ben Horner.

According to police, the victim and a suspect got into an argument on Encinitas Way and they ended up on Miramonte Way where the suspect shot the victim one time in the torso then ran off.

The victim was transported to a hospital to be treated for serious injuries but was expected to survive, Horner said.

Investigators have determined that the suspect and victim were acquaintances but the extent of their relationship has not been released by police.

A description of the suspect was not available.
