FREMONT -- Investigators are still looking for the driver of a car that hit and badly injured a 56-year-old bicyclist last week, police said.

The bicyclist, whose name was not released, suffered a major head injury, broken ribs and several abrasions and remains unconscious in critical condition at San Jose Regional Hospital, police said.

At about 5:45 a.m. last Thursday, the man was riding his bicycle south in the bike lane on Fremont Boulevard south of Warm Springs Boulevard when he was hit by a dark-colored or black 1992 to 1996 four-door Toyota Camry that did not stop, police said.

The car is believed to have right front bumper damage. Police are searching for the driver of the Camry, which was last seen driving southbound on Fremont Boulevard toward Grimmer Boulevard.

Anyone with information should call police at 510-790-6760.
