HAYWARD -- A man was killed and two others were injured early Sunday morning after a pickup truck crashed into a parked dump truck along city streets, police said.
Officers responded at 4:17 a.m. to a report of a collision at the intersection of Industrial Boulevard and Hall Road in Hayward, said Sgt. Chad Olthoff.
Police say a gray Nissan pickup truck was speeding and that it crashed into the rear of a dump truck that was legally parked on the south curb line of Industrial Boulevard.
A 24-year-old man sitting in the right passenger seat was pronounced dead at the scene, Olthoff said. He was later identified as Orfil Sanchez of Hayward.
The driver of the pickup and a passenger sitting in the middle of the front seat suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to Stanford Hospital. Their conditions were not known as of late Sunday afternoon.
None of the victims wore seat belts at the time of the crash, police said, and a preliminary investigation revealed that drugs or alcohol were likely a factor in the crash.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call police at 510-293-7099.
