SAN JOSE -- A 2-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was accidentally backed over by a car driven by a relative at an East San Jose home Wednesday, according to San Jose police.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. when the boy and his family were trying to back out of a driveway in the 1500 block of Christopher Street. Another family car was partially blocking the path, so the boy's mother got out to move it.
Officer Albert Morales said confusion between the mother and the boy's female cousin driving the first car led to neither one noticing the toddler on the driveway.
The first car backed up and hit the child, who was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, Morales said.
