UNION CITY -- A 28-year-old man was in critical condition on Thursday after being stabbed multiple times in an elementary school parking lot, police said.

The attack took place about 5 p.m. on Aug. 18 in the parking lot of Delaine Eastin Elementary School at 34901 Eastin Drive, said Cmdr. Ben Horner.

Officers responded to the school after a witness dialed 911 and reported an assault in the school lot just south of Union City Boulevard.

The witness told police that a man assaulted the victim and then drove away, Horner said. A description of the suspect's car was not available on Thursday.

When police arrived they found the victim laying on the ground, unconscious but breathing, Horner said.

The victim, a Union City resident, had been stabbed multiple times in the torso, Horner said. He was transported to a local trauma center with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition, police said.
