PALO ALTO -- A man was killed Saturday when his cement truck overturned, causing police to close down a section of West Middlefield Road, just south of San Antonio Road, for most of the morning.
The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene, shortly after the accident was reported about 5 a.m., according to Palo Alto police Sgt. Kara Apple. She said the driver's name was being withheld until his relatives could be notified.
Investigators had not determined the cause of the accident, and no witnesses were immediately located.
Officers found the truck on its side and facing south in the northbound lanes of Middlefield Road. According to Apple, the truck had smashed into an electrical utility box.
A coroner's investigation will help determine if alcohol, drugs or any kind of medical emergency was a factor in the crash, Apple said.
