HAYWARD -- An party crasher shot a San Ramon man during a late-night soiree over the weekend in a building just south of Hayward Regional Shoreline, police said.

The 23-year-old victim was expected to survive the shooting, which took place about 11:45 p.m. on Saturday at a two-story commercial building on the 3000 block of Winton Avenue, Sgt. Ken Forkus said Monday.

Officers responded to the building after someone reported that a person had been shot at least twice during a party being held inside, Forkus said.

Witnesses told police they were partying when a group of four to six people crashed the event.

When one of the party organizers asked the group to leave, someone pulled out a gun and fired shots, Forkus said. Two shots hit the victim -- once in the arm and once in the stomach, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries, Forkus said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 510-293-7000 or the anonymous tip line: 510-293-7197.
