OAKLAND -- A 48-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday night outside an East Oakland apartment complex where he had been visiting a friend, police said.

The man's name was not released pending notification of relatives.

Police said he lived in another part of Oakland.

The shooting happened about 10:50 p.m. in the 4800 block of Daisy Street, just north of Interstate 580 and a few blocks from the Mills College campus.

Police said the man had gone to an apartment complex there to visit a friend.

While there the man got into an argument with another man outside the apartment. Officer Leo Sanchez said the two got into a physical confrontation that ended with the 48-year-old man's being shot. He died later Saturday night at a hospital.

The shooter fled before police arrived. Sanchez said that police are not sure what the argument was over and that no arrests have been made.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the shooter's arrest. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or a tip line at 510-773-2805.

The fatal shooting was the second homicide Saturday.

About 1:20 a.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old San Leandro man was fatally shot inside Club Anton, 428 Third St., in Jack London Square while attending a party. No arrests have been made in that killing.
