OAKLAND -- Police arrested a man Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of robbing a Fruitvale neighborhood bank, but another man remained at large, authorities said.

The name and age of the man was not immediately released.

Police combed the neighborhood for several hours Wednesday after the Chase Bank in the 3300 block of International Boulevard was robbed around 1:30 p.m.

The first man was arrested after he was spotted by Alameda County Sheriff's deputies. Police then cordoned off the 1600 block of Fruitvale Avenue and searched yard-to-yard for the second man, who remained at large.

Two nearby schools, Urban Promise Academy and World and Achieve Academy, were on lockdown while police searched for the suspects, said school district spokesman Troy Flint.

A group of schoolchildren were stopped at the corner of 33rd Avenue and East 16th Street because of the police action.
