The part of the Marin Street building in which Mr. Ric's menswear shop operated for decades, has been empty since Richard Lemke, who died Wednesday, retired in 2010.

The building, however, retains some long term tenants, including the Crystal Beauty Shop, which has been at 625 Marin St. for 35 years.

Another longtime tenant is 619 Marin's Open Studio, where Sylvia Flores has been selling art supplies and paintings for four years.

More recently, Dante Ancheta opened a studio doing murals and paintings at 617 Marin St. and Stephanie Hannan operates "Opus and Oils" and teaches children and seniors how to paint at 623 Marin.

But, for the actual space Mr. Ric's store occupied since 1970, Vallejo businessman Robert Litwin said the building's owner is looking "for the best fit."

"We'd like to bring in a pub and call it Mr. Ric's Pub," he said.

Some "very good candidates" have expressed interest and are preparing to submit applications, Litwin said.

Litwin said he and his partner, Mel Gomez, have been working around the building lately, doing some painting and cleaning and installing new planters.

They are also finding new tenants for the building because "Mr. Rick is a good friend of mine" who introduced them to downtown Vallejo and encouraged them to invest in the city.

"We loved him. He's an incredible person," Litwin said.
