SAN FRANCISCO --A man who died after a fall outside Candlestick Park at the start of the San Francisco 49ers game on Sunday has been identified as Hayward resident.
Kevin Hayes, age 32, was killed about 1 p.m. after he fell while walking with his brother on the Jamestown pedestrian walkway, according to information from police and the local medical examiner's office.
A medical examiner's spokesman would not release Hayes' cause of death but according to a police report Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses said Hayes appeared to be intoxicated prior to the fall, police said.
"Alcohol may have been a factor, but the toxicology report would tell for sure," said Officer Gordon Shyy, a police spokesman.
The 49ers won Sunday's season opener, defeating the Green Bay Packers 34-28.
The same day, a railing collapsed at the Colts' game against the Raiders in Indianapolis, injuring two unidentified fans who were leaning against the barrier above the tunnel leading to Oakland's locker room.
